This is the heartbeat of our university community. Apart from academics and sporting, our university boasts with a wide range of activities you can get involved with during your time with us. Our student facilities available on campus at anytime allow for a dynamic memorable experience ensuring that you have access to everything you need.

OUR RESIDENCES

UKZN offers accommodation to students in university owned residences located on campus and off campus including in leased buildings to support living and learning environments. The residences are not only offering a basic bed and shelter for social and physical environments but play a pivotal role in supporting academic and residence life in a multicultural, diverse community. Many students prefer to be allocated in the university residences on campus, but due to limited residence space in university managed accommodation alternative measures were considered for housing students in leased buildings off campus. The university has supplemented the provision of accommodation with leased buildings to maintain and match the high demand of student accommodation provision. Healthcare

The following Primary Health Care services are provided in all campus clinics: • Assessment, Diagnosis and Treatment of ailments (sickness) • Health Education and Medical Counselling • Onsite First Aid Management • Provision of Contraceptives (Including morning after pill) • Pregnancy test and counselling • Management of Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI’s) • Physical screening for various types of cancers (Cervical, Breast, Prostate etc.) • Monitoring and management of blood pressure and blood sugar (including diabetes) • Referrals to Specialists, Hospitals etc. (Only when necessary) • Nutritional Care and Support • Clinical Management of HIV/AIDS (Counselling, Testing, Management of HIV positive clients, Management of patients on ARV etc.) Our Locum Doctors attend to student appointments on a weekly basis and students have to make appointments at the clinics prior to seeing the Doctors. All clinics operate from Monday to Friday and the operating times are clearly displayed at the entrances to the campus clinics. In case of emergencies afterhours and on weekends, RMS is tasked with responding to the emergency and to call out an ambulance to the emergency. ER24 is the University’s current Emergency Transport Provider.

All our campuses have great food outlets for all staff and students to enjoy, All our cafes and eateries serve hallal meals. You can find a wide variety of food outlets that cater to everyone’s liking. These cafes and eateries include; WWW Café, Tamleigh Catering, Hot on Dot, Ugogo Kitchen (Pty) Limited, Flexible Printing Solutions CC, Veg and Meat Cuisine, Jolaj Schwarma, Mediterraneo Caterers Rooftop, Crispy Chicken Master (Proprietary) Limited, Abashana Trading Enterprise, Xpresso, Donutella Food Truck, Athinga's Corner Pty Ltd, Whats Up Dog, The Green Bean, West Grill (Pty)Ltd, Forever Fresh, The Cafe UKZN, Gabs Pizza, Pasta & Sushi (Proprietary) Ltd, Checkmate Group (Pty) Ltd, Umpe Pot and MMK Coffee Shop just to name a few.

Banks and ATMs

All our campuses have ATMs for students and staff to use should they require cash. These ATMs are: FNB, Nedbank, Capitec, Standard bank and ABSA

Sport and fitness

UKZN Libraries

Students are automatically registered as a member of the Library. A student card is a multipurpose card which you can use to access the Libraries, take out books and make photocopies or printouts. The student card is not transferable and you are responsible for materials issued on it. The student card serves as the Library Card. Student card can be used in all campus libraries. The card is not transferable and students are fully responsible for all library transactions in his/her name. This includes any penalties incurred for failure to return recalled books or to replace lost or damaged materials.
